Where to Head for a European Winter Ski Trip

When it comes to planning a winter ski break, the choice of destination can be the biggest decision you to make. There are countless fantastic ski resorts in Europe alone, and narrowing it down to the one for you can be a difficult task to undertake. 

Whatever your budget there is a resort for you, from basic budget breaks, to more top range breaks, such as the many luxury holidays with Elegant resorts, for something a little special and memorable. The choice is endless, so how do you know where to start?

Well, for every country in Europe that is known for its ski breaks, you will have countless resorts to choose from, and they will all have something different to the other. It can be a headache-inducing task, but here are a few you might like to consider.


Andorra is a nice alternative to some of the more upmarket countries famed for ski resorts. Affordable and stunningly beautiful, you will find several resorts here, including Andorra La Vella and Pas de la Casa. You won’t find major facilities and tourist attractions, but the nightlife in both these resorts is high quality, so if apres ski is important to you then Andorra could be a good choice.


The hills are alive! One of the most world famous countries for ski resorts has countless ones to choose from. Bad Gastein, Innsbruck, Zell am See, and Salzburg are all fantastic choices, with skiing opportunities for all abilities, as well as being quite family friendly. Again, apres ski is fantastic, and you’ll find shopping and entertainment away from the slopes too.


Along with Austria, Switzerland is probably the other most famous ski country. Here you will find some of the most exclusive and glittering resorts, including the famous St Moritz. If you want true glitz an glamour, this is for you. Zermatt is another alternative resort for those who enjoy all-rounder ski resorts, with plenty to do away from the mountains.


Val d’Isere is probably the most famous resort in France, and this is where you will be able to easily celeb-spot! If you can travel by car you will experience some of the most beautiful and dramatic mountain scenery around Europe, especially if you choose to visit Chamonix, where you will see some of the highest mountains in the Alps range, including Mont Blanc. France is a good choice for those who want to ski, snowboard, and party ‘til dawn.
