Florida is about more than Orlando and its theme parks, however there’s no denying that these are some of the major pulls to the area. Huge, brash, sprawling, and fun with a capital F, Florida is every holidaymaker’s dream, and then some.
So, when you land in this playground of year-around fun, what exactly can you do? Well here’s a few suggestions that will certainly make your time in Florida memorable for all the right reasons.
Drink butterbeer with Harry Potter
Okay, so you’re strictly speaking not drinking it with Mr Potter per se, but you are drinking it in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is a good second best! As part of Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure theme park you get admission into this section, and can wander down Diagon Alley, enjoy thrill seeking rides, and buy yourself a house scarf. Perfect for fans.
Swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove
We’re sticking in Orlando again, but Discovery Cove is like a castaway paradise, and you’ll easily feel as though you’ve been shipwrecked on a desert island for the day. Part of the package can include a swim with a dolphin if you choose this at the time of booking, and let’s face it, this is on most people’s bucket lists.
Test your adrenaline levels
We can’t not mention the thrill-seeking rides at many of Orlando’s theme parks, and whether you choose to visit Mickey Mouse at Disney World, Shamu’s relatives at SeaWorld, or the minions at Universal Studios, you’ll find some great deals on Florida tickets if you plan your time and ticket needs in advance.
A day at the beach
Orlando’s beaches are fantastic for a relaxing day out, and Clearwater Beach on the Gulf of Mexico coast is perfect for just that. Talcum powder white sand, amazing sunsets, a chilled out vibe! There is also the famous Seascreamer ride where you may even get to see wild dolphins. On the Atlantic Coast you have Daytona Beach, which is equally as famous.
You can’t not visit Miami and experience the glittering city life that oozes from every inch of the pavement! For a spot of fantastic nightlife and clubbing, head here for a few days, or try your hand at rollerblading down the beach!
An airboat ride down the Everglades, spotting wild birds, and maybe even an alligator or two is something totally unique to anywhere else in the world. You can do this at many different destinations, including trips from Miami, and Boggy Creek Park in Orlando.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center
Head to Juno Beach and visit this fantastic sanctuary, where you will see wild turtles rehabilitating, and even live surgery as it happens. For anyone into wildlife, and interested in seeing some of the fantastic work the staff here do, this is a great place to visit.
Florida’s scenery is stunning, and it’s not just about theme parks, so for the best chance of seeing more of it, why not hire a car and plan your own little road trip? You’ll find countless car hire offices at the airports, as well as around the major cities, especially in Orlando, so finding a suitable vehicle will not be a problem. Don’t forget your driving licence!
If this has whet your appetite for a sunshine break in Florida, what are you waiting for?!
